Storage Tips
Store tomatoes at room temperature out of direct sunlight. Storing in the refrigerator can degrade the texture and make them mealy. Will store for up to five days
Store heirloom tomatoes stem-side down as the “bottom” of the tomatoes are fragile when ripe and can bruise easily.
Culinary Tips
Heirloom tomatoes are delicious sliced thickly, drizzled with good olive oil and coarse salt and eaten on a think slice of sourdough bread. Also fabulous cut into big chunks and tossed into a salad.
Cherry tomatoes can be eaten as a snack, thrown into salads, blistered on a stove top and made into a quick pasta sauce with lots of garlic and herbs, or dehydrated in a lot oven to preserve.
Canning tomatoes have a lower water content and are perfect for sauces. We recommend the book “Foolproof Preserving” for fabulous tomato sauce recipes.
